Is There A Dog Safe Rat Poison? Can Mouse Kill A Dog?
2021 - Vanessa Kei
Unfortunately, the ingredients used in making rodenticides can be fatal to dogs, and there is no known "dog safe" rat poison. It's probably best to keep all types of rat poison off your property if you have a dog because even a small amount can kill dogs. However, you or your neighbors might use rat poison and dogs have an uncanny ability to find these rodenticides. Therefore, you should always keep the poison far from the reach of your dog, keep him indoors and always supervise or put him on a leash when you go outside.
If your dog has ingested rat poison, go to the vet quickly with information on the type of rat poison that was ingested. If you're unable to do this, call one immediately for instruction on what to do, and you shouldn't try to induce vomiting unless you are told to do so because that could worsen the situation. In some cases, the veterinarian may instruct you to feed your dog activated charcoal to help in absorbing the toxin. Always wait to receive specific advice from your vet before starting any treatment.
